A little over view of what we did last week.
Cooking at The Brades Lodge
Monday – we cooked chicken noodle soup (suggested by IK)
Made by IK and JA using chicken, noodles, chicken stock and loads of different vegetables that we found at Brades. It took all morning to make but it was worth it because it was delicious.
IK, KG and JA also made fruit smoothies.
We used grapes, strawberries and apple juice in one batch and strawberries, bananas, yogurt and milk in the second batch. IK, JA and KG made the suggestions for the smoothies … good choice, most people enjoyed the one with the apple juice.
Mr Maull’s group also did some baking, LP, RG and ED made some delicious biscuits and there was enough for everyone to take home.
Tuesday – we made spaghetti bolognaise and garlic bread
LP, IK, KG and JA all helped to make the spaghetti bolognaise and JA also made garlic bread on his own.
It was super delicious and there was so much that we were able to take some home for our families.
Week Commencing 13th April
Miss Jukes did not want to be left out so the Interventions has now got a page.
Here is some physical literacy. Get out and do it, it will only help.
Physical literacy is an intervention group we run on Friday afternoons at Shenstone Lodge School. It is a combination of exercise and relaxation activities aimed at improving core strength and stability, improved fine motor skills and learning inner relaxation techniques.
The session is 45 minutes long and divided into 4 sections:
Relaxation – We used meditation for kids to help our children learn how to relax while listening to a story, using their imagination and learning to breath slowly and methodically.
(spend approximately 4 minutes on this)
Yoga – Slowly the children move on from the relaxation with stretching exercises done to Cosmic Kids Yoga adventures. This is fun and interactive and a great warm up activity.
(spend approximately 6 minutes on this)
Dancing – Just dance is the next stage. Using videos from YouTube and following the dance moves, this is where the children use strength, skill and energy to complete their own personal challenges.
(spend approximately 20 minutes on this)
Fine Motor skills – Finally slow everything down with some art and craft activities or use this time to do some homework or some small activities. This section is to develop hand control as well as being a cool down exercise. Start with a few finger stretches before you do the chosen activity.
(spend approximately 15 minutes on this)
Here is an example of each section …
RELAXATION
Meditation for kids
Note for parents/carers: Sometimes we need to find a way to help our children relax. Meditation is a good aid for this and during our Physical literacy sessions we always start off with meditation – a slow read, self focussed story. I have found this one on YouTube. It is important that your child is comfortable and undisturbed for this activity to be really beneficial. We use it at the start of a session (4 minutes) but it could be equally effective at bedtime (16 minutes).

Cosmic Kids Yoga Adventures
Note for parents/carers: Some of the most fun Yoga videos I’ve found on YouTube is Cosmic Kids Yoga Adventures. We use this at school in Physical literacy. The two below each run for about 24 minutes so you may want to break that down into two sessions of 12 minutes for each one.

Note for parents/carers: There are plenty of Just Dance videos to choose from on YouTube but these two are always the first to be requested during Physical Literacy … LET’S GET MOVING
